As part of a CARE Study Tour with support of the German Embassy Lilongwe members of the German and Luxembourg Parliament traveled to Malawi from 1st to 5th November 2016, focussing on the topics of food and nutrition as well as maternal health.

The visit was part of the program “CARE European Study Tours: Building Champions and Deepening the Connection for International Development Assistance". The visit was organised by CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg. The program comprised project visits to German and internationally funded projects in communities of the Salima district, exchange with Malawian Members of Parliament and other policy makers as well as meetings with international development partners.

Objective of the study tour was to sensitize policymakers in Europe in order to build political support that will, in turn, result in improved European policies and funding for global development cooperation. Just recently, in August 2016, another delegation of Members of the European parliament visited Malawi, too.
