Onboarding Workshop of the Nutrition and Access to Primary Education (NAPE) project celebrated the start off of its implementation phase under the EU funded ‘Afikepo’ Nutrition Programme

The GIZ project Nutrition and Access to Primary Education (NAPE) finalized its preparation for the project implementation under the umbrella of the EU funded Afikepo Nutrition Programme in Malawi. The project focuses on the provision of school meals in 150 schools to support pre-school and primary school children with their learning efforts in seven districts: Chitipa, Karonga, Mzimba North and South, Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay, Kasungu and Mulanje.

The onboarding event of the NAPE project at Ufulu Gardens, from March 14 to 16, set the starting point to implement the planned project activities.

On Thursday, 16th March, Ambassador Jürgen Borsch symbolically supported the starting signal by handing over keys for needed cars and motor bikes to NAPE staff which will be based in the respective districts, together with Tomaida Msiska, Programme Manager of the Sustainable Agriculture Delegation of the European Union.

Since 2012 the German Government through GIZ, has been implementing the Nutrition and Access to Primary Education (NAPE) Project to introduce a multi-sectoral approach in close partnership with the relevant ministries, schools and communities. The successful implementation of the Home Grown School Meal initiative between 2012 and 2015 encouraged the government to launch a Home Grown School Meal programme in the school year of 2014/2015.
