With the support of the German Embassy, and in close cooperation with Rumphi District Council, represented by the District Health Officer, and the Community of Mzokoto, represented by Senior Chief Mwankhunikira, LICO Life Concern will build a new guardian shelter for pregnant women at Mzokoto Health Centre in Rumphi. The existing shelter is damaged beyond repair. The new shelter will provide a safe and sanitary environment for expecting mothers and their family members.

LICO is a Rumphi based NGO that runs HIV/AIDS programs, with focus on Prevention Of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT); promotes sexual reproductive health and rights, targeting young people in particular; and addresses the challenges of climate change with a focus on promotion of renewable energy resources.

Through the Embassy’s small grants programme, 7.6 million Kwacha were made available to the project. The cheque was handed over to Mr. Peter Gondwe, Director of LICO, on June 15th 2016 by Mrs. Chakupa Milanzi, Officer for Development Cooperation at the Embassy.
