Coaching certificate for Ernest Mtawali

On Tuesday, 15 April 2014, Ernest Mtawali received his coaching certificate at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. Together with fellow Malawian Patrick Mabedi, Ernest Mtawali successfully completed a three-week International Coaching Course of the German Football Association (DFB) in Hennef, Germany. The course took place in May 2013.


Twice a year the German Football Association (DFB) holds international coaching courses in for coaches from Africa, Asia and Central and South America leading to A and B licences. The courses, which last for between two and three weeks, take place in Hennef/Germany and are held in English, French and Spanish. The courses include theoretical skills such as only football tactics, training methods, sports and football-specific medicine and practical lessons, as well as visits to football matches and other excursions. Former participants from Malawi include Dave Mpesi, Audlo Makonyola and Leonard Mpulula.

The certificate was handed over by Johannes Scharlau, Deputy Head of Mission, in the presence of Suzgo Nyirenda, General Secretary of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM). Ernest Mtawali is the coach of the Malawi Under 20 football team,  the "Junior Flames", who beat the Mighty Wanderes 2-0 in a friendly match that took place after the handover of the certificate. The Junior Flames are currently preparing for the second leg away match against Botswana's "Young Zebras" as part of the CAF Youth Championship Preliminary. The Embassy also handed over to FAM some footballs and other training equipment that were donated by the DFB.
