Curriculum vitae of Ambassador Dr Peter Woeste
Dr Peter Woeste is a German carreer diplomat. He was born in 1959 and is since 2011 serving as Germany’s Ambassador to Malawi.
Educated at the universities of Marburg and Lausanne, he holds a doctorate in Law from Marburg University, and has been admitted to the bar in 1989, when he joined the German Federal Foreign Service.
He has since served in Ulan Bator (Mongolia), in Pretoria and Cape Town (South Africa) and New York City (USA). For alltogether 13 years he held different positions at headquaters and abroad with a focus on the multilateral aspects of modern diplomacy, in particular the United Nations.
His professional love lies with Africa since early student days brought him as a working student to South Africa in 1980 and again from 1997 – 2001 as press attaché to the German mission in Pretoria. He has been traveling most of the east and southern African countries, mostly together with his family.
He is married to Regina Woeste, a general practitioner and artist. The couple has three children.
Having worked as a free lance journalist for many years he still publishes regularly in particular on travel and political issues, and as well on some aspects of International Law.
The focus of Woeste’s professional interest is now on Africa’s new economic growth, the potential for renewable energies, development issues and the human rights in particular.
